One of the things I lead with on a first-impression conversation is that I am a quilter. I have owned a sewing machine for most of my life, but it wasn’t until five years ago that I really took off with making art with fabric.
One of the things I love best about quilting is it’s rich history of women together, talking and stitching in order to make something that will comfort those around them. The talk and the gathering was part of the comfort, the warmth of a quilt put together by many hands.
The community built through stitching is still there, albeit more often online. My own skills were passed to me by the mothers in my life, my mom and my mother-in-law, who got me my first quilting kit that got me started.
